The patent is related to a system and method for measurement of the Brillouin frequency shift profile along an optical fiber. In particular, we a particular optical demodulation techniques in order to increase the resolution and the accuracy and, furthermore, permits a simplifications of the measuring systems avoiding the use of high frequency electronics. The system can be used as fiber optic distributed systems in order to measure strain and/or temperature along the fiber. The main applications of this sensor is structural health monitoring of large civil infrastructures (brigides, dams, railways, pipelines, …)
