In this work we aim to explore the complex relationships existing between trusting and being trustworthy. On the one hand, after considering the possible signs of trustworthiness, we will focus on trust itself as a special sign of the trustor's trustworthiness. On the other hand, we will analyze how the trustor's trustful attitude can actually increase the trustee's trustworthiness. We will identify three distinct mental paths which may lead a trustee to being (more) trustworthy in response to a trustor's trust.

Abstract

In this work we aim to explore the complex relationships existing between trusting and being trustworthy. On the one hand, after considering the possible signs of trustworthiness, we will focus on trust itself as a special sign of the trustor's trustworthiness. On the other hand, we will analyze how the trustor's trustful attitude can actually increase the trustee's trustworthiness. We will identify three distinct mental paths which may lead a trustee to being (more) trustworthy in response to a trustor's trust.
