APE hosts experimental stations featuring LabVIEW based data acquisition software providing interfacing to third party software and facility services. The monochromators serving APE beamline are controlled via a Pro-Dex MAXp Multi-Axis Motion Controller housed in a rack PC server running Windows OS, here after called "Mono server". A LabVIEW based software wraps vendor DLLs and acts as TCP/IP server for incoming requests from acquisition stations. Power part for the stepper motor is accomplished by a standard motor box from Sincrotrone Trieste. The monochromator position is read by a optical encoder and shown by a Heidenhain Quadra-Chek readout. The latter is read via RS232. An effort has been made for XAS/XMCD experiments which involve monochromator motion. This last is also performed in a continuous acquisition mode. The quadrature encoder signal split from monochromator's optical encoder is synchronously sampled together with the measured analog signals from Keithley 6514 electrometers (sample current and beam reference current). The hardware setup, housed in a dedicated rack-PC, running Windows OS, here after called "FastScan server", relies on RTSI - interconnected PCI-6602 and PCI-6123 National Instruments boards. A LabVIEW based software acts again as TCP/IP server for incoming request from acquisition computers and communicates to "Mono server". Beamline users only transparently deal with initial monochromator energy, final monochromator energy and monochromator journey speed.
