An optical engine was prepared in order to analyse the EGR effects on ignition and combustion with the simulation of the EH-VVA system performance. To this aim, the chosen solution concerned in a classical cooled EGR layout plus a throttle valve in the exhaust duct able to reduce the exhaust flow rate so allowing the simulation of internal EGR. Tests were carried out on the optical single cylinder CR DI engine at low load and speed conditions by varying the external cooled EGR rate (up to 36%) and the internal EGR rate (up to 21%). The analysis of the combustion was done through the two-colour pyrometry technique, while the spray analysis, only for internal EGR test cases, was carried out by high speed imaging technique. In-cylinder liquid spray patterns, flame temperature maps and soot concentration distributions were obtained for the different test cases.

Abstract
In-cylinder liquid spray patterns, flame temperature maps and soot concentration distributions were obtained for the different test cases.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
