This work presents preliminary results on a campaign of measurements on pigments in ancient pottery carried out with the "in situ" use of the PIXE-? spectrometer: in some case the recently upgraded LNS diffractometer has been also used. The results established the use of reduced iron technique to obtain the black pigments and of talc to produce the white ones. Also, the presence of Mg in some orange pigments, can be related with the red ochre mixed to talc, this last as whitening material.

Abstract
This work presents preliminary results on a campaign of measurements on pigments in ancient pottery carried out with the "in situ" use of the PIXE-? spectrometer: in some case the recently upgraded LNS diffractometer has been also used. The results established the use of reduced iron technique to obtain the black pigments and of talc to produce the white ones. Also, the presence of Mg in some orange pigments, can be related with the red ochre mixed to talc, this last as whitening material.File in questo prodotto:
