The trace element determination in obsidian artefacts gives information about the provenance. In many cases the obsidian sourcing can be performed by using non-destructive techniques and limiting the analysis to few characterising trace elements. In the present work the portable BSC-XRF spectrometer of the LANDIS/INFN laboratory is used for the non-destructive determination of Rb, Sr, Y, Zr and Nb in 350 obsidians from Neolithic archaeological layers at the site of S.Marco (Paternò, CT). The quantitative analysis was performed by using a multi-parametric linear regression based on a preliminary calibration of the system with pretrological standards. The analytical results allowed to identify in the island of Lipari the provenance of the obsidian and to perform a preliminary comparison with other data obtained by the LANDIS laboratory from the analysis of obsidians of different sites in Sicily.
