The international conference was organized by the National Committee study meetings for the fifth centenary of Pope Alexander VI, by the "Rome in the Renaissance," the relations between Italy and Iberian Institute of the National Research Council and the Department of Classical Philology, linguistics and science historical antiquity and the Middle Ages at the University of Cagliari. Alexander VI was certainly a Pope who marked their time, but also had the luck to live extraordinary events that would change the course of history: the great geographical discoveries, the discovery of Brazil, the evangelization of the New World were themes important that required a moment of reflection. The conference on the pontificate of the Borgia focus, in this case, the role of the pope and the papacy in the relations between the Mediterranean and the Atlantic Ocean, between old and new world and seeks the projection European Union, in terms of political, cultural and religious, in the New world. The volume is accompanied by the index of abbreviations, names and manuscript sources.
Il Convegno internazionale è stato organizzato dal Comitato nazionale incontri di studio per il V centenario del pontificato di Alessandro VI, dall'Associazione «Roma nel Rinascimento», dall'Istituto sui rapporti italo iberici del CNR e dal Dipartimento di filologia classica, glottologia e scienze storiche dell'antichità e del medioevo dell'Università di Cagliari. Alessandro VI è stato certamente un pontefice che ha segnato il proprio tempo, ma ha avuto anche la sorte di vivere eventi straordinari che avrebbero cambiato il corso della storia: le grandi scoperte geografiche, la scoperta del Brasile, l'evangelizzazione del Nuovo Mondo erano temi importanti che richiedevano un momento di riflessione. Il convegno sul pontificato del Borgia mette a fuoco, in questo caso, il ruolo del papa e del papato nei rapporti tra Mediterraneo e Atlantico, tra vecchio e nuovo mondo e cerca di cogliere la proiezione europea, in termini politici culturali e religiosi, nel Nuovo Mondo. Il volume è corredato dagli indici delle abbreviazioni, dei nomi e delle fonti manoscritte.
