The depth and persistence of the myth of the Borgias in the European historiography of the French treatises on the history of Italian politics have characterized the Congress of Bologna: the family fortune to the historical myth of the policy and in particular the Valentino Borgia as the foundation of the new political thinking at the base of 'idea of the modern state. The volume also provides an opportunity to further deepen, the new political relations between the Borgias, the institutional realities and the rulers of Romagna and of the Papal States, and with more elements to enrich the historical reconstruction of a family and of a pontificate that appear more and more like a kaleidoscope of many images and many actually

La profondità e la persistenza del mito dei Borgia nella storiografia europea dalla trattatistica francese alla storiografia politica italiana hanno caratterizzato il Convegno di Bologna: dalla fortuna della famiglia al mito storiografico della politica borgiana ed in particolare del Valentino quale fondamento del nuovo pensiero politico alla base dell'idea di stato moderno. Il volume costituisce anche l'occasione per approfondire ulteriormente, i nuovi rapporti politici tra i Borgia, le realtà istituzionali ed i potentati della Romagna e dello Stato pontificio, e per arricchire con maggiori elementi la ricostruzione storica di una famiglia e di un pontificato che appaiono sempre più come un caleidoscopio dalle molte immagini e dalle molte realtà
