The main purpose of the paper is to present some cross-layer parametric optimization problems in bandwidth allocation over a rain-faded satellite channel, in a unified setting. The fade countermeasure regards bit and coding rate adaptation, and the traffic types addressed are both inelastic and elastic ones. Bandwidth allocation is performed in an adaptive fashion, according to fade and traffic variations. A numerical example for elastic traffic is presented and briefly discussed.

Abstract
The main purpose of the paper is to present some cross-layer parametric optimization problems in bandwidth allocation over a rain-faded satellite channel, in a unified setting. The fade countermeasure regards bit and coding rate adaptation, and the traffic types addressed are both inelastic and elastic ones. Bandwidth allocation is performed in an adaptive fashion, according to fade and traffic variations. A numerical example for elastic traffic is presented and briefly discussed.File in questo prodotto:
