An innovative Genetic Algorithm procedure for synthesizing Artificial Magnetic Conductors (AMC) and High Impedance (HI) surfaces is presented. The resulting structures are uniplanar and easy to manufacture. An application as magnetic ground is presented which reveals useful for realizing low-profile antennas.
