Allozyme polymorphism in Lima bean was analyzed in order to determine genetic diversity and taxomomic relationships in cultivated forms of this species. Cultivated accessions showed variation in 7 enzyme systems analysed, with 17 bands of activity, 7 of which correspond to polymorphic loci. The dendrogram based on Nei's distances revealed the genetic divergence of two distinct groups of accessions, one consisting of Potato and Sieve morphotypes, and the other one of large Big Lima accessions.

Abstract

Allozyme polymorphism in Lima bean was analyzed in order to determine genetic diversity and taxomomic relationships in cultivated forms of this species. Cultivated accessions showed variation in 7 enzyme systems analysed, with 17 bands of activity, 7 of which correspond to polymorphic loci. The dendrogram based on Nei's distances revealed the genetic divergence of two distinct groups of accessions, one consisting of Potato and Sieve morphotypes, and the other one of large Big Lima accessions.
