Introduzione alle Reti Broadband: Nuove Applicazioni

The growing processing power of the personal computers and the new demand of interconnection capabilities lead the quality of service offered by actual computers networks to be inadequate. This paper furnishes an introduction to the new broadband networks and to the new services offered to the users, who will have at their own disposal new powerful applications. The papers stresses the questions regarding the topological configurations and the Local Area Networks interconnection capability offered by the broadband services. It is outside the scope of this paper to offer an in depth description of the architectural aspects of the new technologies; networks and applications are cuncurrently overviewed to allow a better comprehension of the relationships between the network resources requirements of the new applications (video and audio conferencing, videomail...) and the development guideline of the future network technologies.
