In this paper we describe two fast switching and rnultiplexlng technologies. They are particularly suitable for wide area network development and are usable even for metropolitan and local area networks because of their characteristics. We present ATM transfer mode which as been the project CCITT base for B-ISDN network. It is a very speed technology whom fixed length packets called cells are trasmitted. Advantages and disadvantages of cells vs frames (variable length packets) are discussed. Then Frame Relay technology (fast packet switching) used to trasmit variable length packets is analized and finally we describe B-ISDN network based on ATM architecture.

Abstract
In this paper we describe two fast switching and rnultiplexlng technologies. They are particularly suitable for wide area network development and are usable even for metropolitan and local area networks because of their characteristics. We present ATM transfer mode which as been the project CCITT base for B-ISDN network. It is a very speed technology whom fixed length packets called cells are trasmitted. Advantages and disadvantages of cells vs frames (variable length packets) are discussed. Then Frame Relay technology (fast packet switching) used to trasmit variable length packets is analized and finally we describe B-ISDN network based on ATM architecture.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
