MedMates (Med Mutual Attraction for Tourism Emergent Sites), capitalizing experiences gained in Italian POIN, will focus on Tourism Emergent Sites which are areas rich in cultural, natural and landscape attractors, with high development potentialities but still not fully recognized and appreciated. In a systemic approach, TES will be developed as tourism destinations able to attract significant tourists’ flows and to trigger socio-economic rebalancing reducing the gap in space and time between developed coastal areas and rural internal territories. MedMates will provide and test a local development model based on the transnational cooperation among TES of different regions which will implement a bundle of cultural resources, as key attractors, local productions and services and a sustainable supply system by sharing innovative planning tools for decision-making processes, both for local administrators and tourism SMEs. Environmental impact on territories of public policies and firms behaviours will be monitored in order to spread environment friendly actions.
