Abstract

Demographic shifts are creating all over EU countries, opportunities to transform underperforming real estate portfolios into innovative, zero energy buildings. Moving from this theoretical approach, the Zero Energy Universities Campuses proposal aims at promoting a new and shared awareness of the advantages and benefits of buildings’ renovation, with the introduction of renewable energy technologies and systems, creating, in EU countries, opportunities for new and improved jobs, investment and technology upgrades, through training actions. The proposal aims at the dissemination of knowledge and tools to support urban planners, architectural designers, and contractors, in their everyday working practices, assessing energy consumption and wastes, greenhouse gases emissions, promoting energy conscious design solutions and social factors, paving the way to the introduction of renewable energy technologies and systems.
