This book is set at the juncture of two research fields: Technology Enhanced Learning and Game-Based Learning. It is one of the outcomes from GEL (Game Enhanced Learning), a one-year "Theme Team" initiative supported by the STELLAR Network of Excellence (NoE). The ultimate aim of GEL is to explore key challenges in the field of game-enhanced learning, with particular regard for pedagogical aspects. The GEL Theme Team comprises seven researchers from six European countries (the members of the advisory board of this book). GEL's members have various backgrounds and expertise but are all actively involved in aspects of Game-Based Learning research, including application in learning contexts (school, higher and vocational education, military training) as well as game design and implementation. Two members belong to STELLAR and six are involved in GALA, a European NoE dedicated to Serious Games . This book has provided an opportunity to gather knowledge in the field and to explore issues of game enhanced learning from the specific perspective of curriculum integration. It comprises contributions both from GEL members and from other researchers investigating the various aspects of introducing and integrating games in curricula.
