The project deal with the design of a new factory plant taking into consideration both the factory building design as well the shop-floor layout design and simulation. The main idea is to give to the user a simple environment that work on a relatively low cost hardware/software platform that allows the definition of the factory building and shop-floor layout and then automatically generate the simulation model. ITIA-CNR has already developed in previous project such application but since now it was possible to run it just on SGI workstation and using an high cost software library. The project it’s not just a porting of a software application from Unix to Windows but it’s a complete new application with reduced functionality customised on user need. The new system allow the user to retrieve via xml the description of an existing layout or create a new one in a simple way using a 3D immersive environment.
