Apoptosis is a physiological process of cell auto-destruction that eliminate unwanted or severely damaged cells in multicellular organisms. It plays critical roles in development, maintainance of homeostasis and host defence. The mail of the COMETA Project is to identify and functionally characterize novel genes involved in the regulation of the apoptotic process and to order them in the apoptotic signaling cascades. The project will aim at the following. 1) Search for FADD and DED interacting proteins (G. Ruberti co-ordinator); 2) Search for novel targets and regulators of the lipid pathway (R. Testi partner University of Tor Vergata Rome) 3) Search for caspase regulators (C Brancolini partner University of Udine) 4) Search for p63/p73 targets and regulators (G. Melino partner University of Tor Vergata Rome)
