The main aim of SIOS is to develop the existing multitude of observing facilities in Svalbard into one coordinated and optimised observational infrastructure which can match advanced Earth system models with observational evidence and provide near-real-time information on Arctic change to interested stakeholders. This will require, among other things, the establishment of a SIOS knowledge centre, which will serve as a platform for data storage, quality assessment, aggregation and assimilation, and provision to the stakeholder community. The possible legal options will be analysed and the most appropriate will be a chosen as a tool.

Abstract

The main aim of SIOS is to develop the existing multitude of observing facilities in Svalbard into one coordinated and optimised observational infrastructure which can match advanced Earth system models with observational evidence and provide near-real-time information on Arctic change to interested stakeholders. This will require, among other things, the establishment of a SIOS knowledge centre, which will serve as a platform for data storage, quality assessment, aggregation and assimilation, and provision to the stakeholder community. The possible legal options will be analysed and the most appropriate will be a chosen as a tool.
