In automotive industry the throttle body plays a crucial role because it controls the actual air/fuel mixture fed to cylinders. This implies the performances of the vehicle in terms of traction, emissions, idle speed regime, cold starting management, thermal transient and smoother movement during tip/in tip/out, strongly depends on the precise control of this device. Since control actions are based on the mathematical model of the plant, in order to provide better performance, a preliminary identification of the plant parameters is often indispensable. This paper is aimed at showing a identification procedure, that relies on experimental data and numerical routines to estimate all the parameter values of throttle body. The effectiveness of method is confirmed by experimental data in many operating conditions.
