After the approval of the Code 10, the Italian Research Institutes - and OECD Official Testing Stations - CRA-ING of Treviglio and CNR-IMAMOTER of Torino have carried out some tests using this procedure. In particular, at the Treviglio Testing station a series of supplementary experimental tests on the state-of-the-art design of agricultural cabs using as reference method the OECD Code 10, has been carried out. The main questions arisen concerned some differences between the cab layout of the agricultural tractors and the earth moving machinery. In earth moving machinery the cab is generally designed since the origin as a FOPS; on the contrary, in agricultural tractors the FOPS is mainly obtained by the original ROPS frame fitted with a roof suitable for the aim. Consequently, the problem concerns testing the roof that became the weak point of the structure. In agricultural tractors the roof is generally made of plastic materials (ABS, PE, PC, FG reinforced, etc.) but in some earth moving machinery this kind of materials is not allowed introducing the problem of elastic deflection. Moreover agricultural tractor's cabs are generally provided with a higher level of comfort accessories than earth moving machines; these are variably disposed or suspended under the ceiling (radio, speakers, fan, sliding curtains, padding, etc.). The accessories could detach from their position after the test impact and hit the safety zone.
