The objective of this study is to develop and validate soil moisture retrieval algorithms tailored to the capabilities of the PALSAR instrument. The developed and assessed methods are intended for agricultural areas and for watershed spatial scales (e.g. from 500 to 10000 km2). In the first part of this project, existing theoretical models and inversion methods have been adapted to PALSAR data and preliminary validated using SAR and ground data acquired during experimental campaigns (e.g. AGRISAR'06 and AQUATER). In the second part of the project, the analysis will be extended to the combined use of PALSAR and ASAR data and to longer temporal series of data acquired over the test sites of Foggia (Italy), Zwalm (Belgium), Flevoland (The Netherlands).

Abstract
The objective of this study is to develop and validate soil moisture retrieval algorithms tailored to the capabilities of the PALSAR instrument. The developed and assessed methods are intended for agricultural areas and for watershed spatial scales (e.g. from 500 to 10000 km2). In the first part of this project, existing theoretical models and inversion methods have been adapted to PALSAR data and preliminary validated using SAR and ground data acquired during experimental campaigns (e.g. AGRISAR'06 and AQUATER). In the second part of the project, the analysis will be extended to the combined use of PALSAR and ASAR data and to longer temporal series of data acquired over the test sites of Foggia (Italy), Zwalm (Belgium), Flevoland (The Netherlands).I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
