This paper examines a significant collection of software tools for delivering courseware: Learning Space, Virtual-U, WebCT, TopClass, Web Course in a Box, ToolBook II (Instructor and Assistant). The aim is to provide better understanding of organizational issues, enlightening pedagogical goals, methods, and various information technologies used to support courseware. During our investigation, the functional specifications of an integrated system environment are outlined. A final discussion provides the arguments supporting our options. This work may serve as critical contribution in designing a training environment based on up-to-date web support tools.
