The capabilities of the single phase level set RANSE solver developed at INSEAN to predict wave field, wave breaking and wake around a ship are investigated. Particular attention is devoted to the prediction of the wave in the far field; the numerical dissipation is maintained at acceptable level by the use of grid refinements. Grid refinement by overlapping grids approach is also used for an accurate description of the wave breaking phenomena. The computations are conducted on a sequence of grids in order to perform an accurate analysis of the grid convergence property of the solver. Validation of the results are provided by comparisons with experimental data.

Abstract
The capabilities of the single phase level set RANSE solver developed at INSEAN to predict wave field, wave breaking and wake around a ship are investigated. Particular attention is devoted to the prediction of the wave in the far field; the numerical dissipation is maintained at acceptable level by the use of grid refinements. Grid refinement by overlapping grids approach is also used for an accurate description of the wave breaking phenomena. The computations are conducted on a sequence of grids in order to perform an accurate analysis of the grid convergence property of the solver. Validation of the results are provided by comparisons with experimental data.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
