This book is an unprecedented attempt in Italy to attract the general attention of archaeologists and computer scientists to the enormous prospects offered by the use of computers in archaeology. It consists of three main parts: the first relates to databases and illustrates various systems of data management; the second refers to the application of mathematical and statistical techniques, which constitute a more advanced sector of investigation; lastly, the third part is open to the future, illustrating the most advanced results coming from the new frontiers of simulation and artificial intelligence.
