AESS: MULTIMEDIA ETHNOGRAPHIC CATALOGUE ON LINE In this paper we describe the realization and management of an on line information system for an Ethnographic Archive comprehending about 50.000 multimedia heterogeneous documents distributed on different physical supports. The archive has been analyzed and designed as an Entity-Relation conceptual schema and implemented into an Oracle database. The entities and attributes, individualized during the conceptual phase, has been translated into as many types of catalogue cards and relative fields. In addition to a program to automatically import data from preexisting databases, a versatile data entry procedure, assisted by controlled dictionaries, has been developed and applied.
