Abstract

WP3 coordination of the project: BioTRANSformation of by-products from fruit and vegetable processing industry into valuable BIOproducts, FP7 project 2013-2015, TRANSBIO. Cluj-Napoca, Romania, 25.4.2014 In the second year of activities several tasks have been completed: Screening and selection for appropriate wild-type strains of Ralstonia eutropha (Cupriavidus necator) and other strains able to produce PHB, Synthesis of a recombinant system for PHB production in E. coli, Screening of the best "fermentation substrate /microbial strain" combination for PHB accumulation, and Optimization of PHB volumetric productivity in bioreactors up to 10 litres. There is still a need to obtain a quantitive determination of PHB/PHA to evaluate the yield of product /dry weight of biomass.
