Using Microsoft ISA Server to monitor network traffic

The goal of this paper is to examine the effects of a logical firewall on networks provided for public research institutes measured by performance indicators like web and application usage, traffic analysis and security parameters. The reported year in the analysis is 2011. The object of this work is the network infrastructure of CNR Institute of Studies on Mediterranean Economies. This infrastructure is based on a private network protected by a firewall and provides DNS, Mail, Antispam, Antivirus and Update services to all the internal computers of the institute. The network counts 7 servers and about 50 computer and many devices. The firewall chosen is Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration Server 2004 and all data are analysed observing the firewall array reports.
