The project starts from the consideration that, due to the even more strict international standards, the earth moving machineries will be provided of optimized engines with new and improved devices (liquid cooled EGR valves, new catalytic converters and DPF systems) which reduce the space in the engine compartment. The heat exchanger optimization is needed to obtain smaller, lighter, but at the same time more efficient, radiators and the industry has to modify his production system to be able to answer to the market requests rapidly and with tailored products. The potential for application of structured coatings at nanoscale, has been exploited in another project (SNAPP) presented by the same research team in the FDF-SP1-1.2 with encouraging results. This project aims at investigating the potential of surface nano-coating of the heat exchanger inner surface, in order to improve the overall efficiency developing also an optimized production system.
