The overall goal of our project is to establish a reliable and rapid methodology to evaluate toxic cyanobacteria blooms in water bodies. Accomplishment of the following milestones will assure the success of the project: 1) Determination of specific fluorescence-based indexes for the classification of cyanobacteria (toxic and non-toxic strain of the same species); 2) Investigating the potential of fluorescence-based indexes to detect the production of cyanotoxins with special emphasis on amino acid derived toxins (i.e. microcystins, nadularins, BMAA); 3) Design and implementation of a compact prototype for the in situ measurement of cyanotoxins fluorescencebased indexes. The current collaboration is based on mutual contribution of Italian and Israeli scientists from different scientific disciplines that synergistically complement each other to achieve a common goal of early detection of toxic blooms of cyanobacteria in freshwater ecosystems.

Abstract
The current collaboration is based on mutual contribution of Italian and Israeli scientists from different scientific disciplines that synergistically complement each other to achieve a common goal of early detection of toxic blooms of cyanobacteria in freshwater ecosystems.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
