The purpose of SMARP project is development, production and characterization of innovative ceramics with specific applications in the propulsion. Development of future generation thrusters requires the combination of both more severe combustion conditions (temperature and pressure) in order to improve the specific impulse and significant cost reduction. Systems of interest are monolithic and composites based on carbides of early transition metals, mainly hafnium and tantalum carbides.
