Abstract

This explorative cruise has permitted to determine that the Sardinian sea is dominated by mesoscala phenomena (large anticyclonic eddies). Two large anticyclonic eddies (greater than 45 nm) and a smaller one, originated by the instability of the Algerian Current, are detected in the Sardinian sea. They interact with the resident water masses and modulate the chlorophyll, nutrient and pheopigments distribution in the Sardinian Sea.
