The deburring cell design is foreseen in WP4. The project aims at an easy to use robot system, which will almost totally eliminate the problems in fettling and finishing of castings made in batch quantities. The equipment will have the flexibility to carry out all of the four most important operations, fettling, studs grinding, flash removal and surface upgrading. The idea to use an hydraulic transmission in this application aims to develop a deburring and degrinding cell engine system that is more resilient to an environment like a foundry (dirty environment). Thanks to the high power-weight ratio of the hydraulic system, it is possible to reach power density higher than that available using a common electric motor. The possibility to change the rotational speed easily and in a continuous way is another key factor which support the idea to use a hydraulic motor for FLEXICAST intended applications
