High efficiency and low recirculating power, which are fundamental requirements for the success of DEMO, have been taken in great consideration for the conceptual design of the DEMO NBI. Particular attention has been paid to the issues related to Reliability, Availability, Maintainability and Inspectability (RAMI). In this report, the main functional requirements are reported together with a discussion on how they could be reached using the possible future technological developments related to the R&D currently being carried out in various research laboratories.
