The volume grid past the hull and the appendages will be generated by means of standard grid generators. The mesh will exploit the Chimera-type topology capability (overlapped domains) already available in the CNR-INSEAN Xnavis unsteady RaNSE code. The grid topology will be chosen in order to match the requirements of the numerical algorithms, i.e. grid clustering will be determined by the thickness of the boundary layer on the solid surfaces. The global structure of the grid will be also determined by the location of the wakes behind the appendages and the propeller. The surface grid on the propeller blades and the hub for inviscid flow calculations (i.e. by BEM) will be generated by means of in-house surface grid generator. The quality of the grids will be checked by means of CFD simulations on notional cases.
