The document is organised in three main parts: - the first part concerns a review of missions and applications that could benefit from the used of a CS approach: the considered spectral range are from X-.ray to THz, although a section on microwaves has also be included for the sake of completeness. - the second part is devoted to an extensive review of CS-base instruments and relevant critical components. - the third part describes the proposed instrument concepts, discussing all main technical issues and analysing pros and cons of the proposed configurations wrt traditional systems. Finally an instrument concept ranking is carried out and conclusions are drawn to select the two most promising concepts.

Abstract
The document is organised in three main parts: - the first part concerns a review of missions and applications that could benefit from the used of a CS approach: the considered spectral range are from X-.ray to THz, although a section on microwaves has also be included for the sake of completeness. - the second part is devoted to an extensive review of CS-base instruments and relevant critical components. - the third part describes the proposed instrument concepts, discussing all main technical issues and analysing pros and cons of the proposed configurations wrt traditional systems. Finally an instrument concept ranking is carried out and conclusions are drawn to select the two most promising concepts.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
