On the basis of the results obtained in the first two years of activity on the etherification reaction of glycerol, during this year, the study was focused on the use of ethanol as O-alkylant agent instead of butanol or tert-butyl alcohol. The reaction is catalysed by acid functionalities and five glycerol-ethers could be obtained as a function of the OH-substitution, or rather 1a: 3-ethoxy-1,2-propanediol (1-MEG); 1b: 2-ethoxy-1,3-propanediol (2-MEG); 2a: 1,3-diethoxy-2-propanol (1,3-DEG); 2b: 2,3-dietoxy-1-propanol (2,3-DEG) and 3: 1,2,3-triethoxy-propane (TEG).At the same time, in collaboration with the Hungarian group of research, the glycerol valorisation was focused towards the production of hydrogen over PtOx/TiO2 photocatalysts.
