In this Algorithm Theoretical Basis Document (ATBD), version 2 (v2), the scientific background and a functional description of the SSM retrieval algorithms, selected in D1.2 (Requirement baseline), are detailed. The algorithms have been adapted to the mission context of Sentinel-1 (S-1) and implemented in the Prototype Software v1, which is an evolutionary prototype allowing that the code can be refined and updated taking into account feedback on algorithm performance obtained during the validation activities. A version 2 of the Prototype Software will be released at the end of the project.
