The work described in the following deals with the production of ultra-high temperature ceramics with specific textured surfaces created with the aim of increasing the optical properties of the as-produced bulks. Ceramics production has been carried out at CNR-ISTEC in Faenza (RA), whilst the surface modification has been performed both at ISTEC and at the University of Ferrara (UNIFE). This present Deliverable D 6.1 covers the following tasks: WP6:Task 6.1: Preparation and densification of bulk materials with natural porosity and microstructural analysis. Task 6.2: Preparation of bulk materials with surface texture obtained by chemical etching. Task 6.3: Preparation of pre-oxidized surfaces and microstructural analysis. The project was initiated on March 21st 2013. The manuscript of this report was released by the authors in September 2016.
