Report on the review of existing SOPs for Hg which are employed within regional and global networks (i.e. GMOS)

The Standard Operational Procedure (SOP) for the continuous measurement of TGM and/or GEM in ambient air using either the Tekran 2537 Mercury Vapour Analyser or the Lumex RA 915 AM Automatic Mercury Monitor, employed within regional and global network (i.e., GMOS global network), has been reviewed. This SOP is based upon the European standard (NEN-EN 15852 (en)) and the Canadian CAMNet/CAPMoN SOP and was generated concurrently with the GMOS SOP for speciated mercury measurements in ambient air using the Tekran 2537/1130/1135 instrumentation, based on the United States Atmospheric Mercury Network (AMNet) SOP for speciated ambient mercury measurements for a large-scale network of sites. Additional information, obtained from the procedures used at the Canadian monitoring stations, has also been included. Both these GMOS SOPs adopted within the mercury global network have been furthermore revised by the GMOS partners. The current revised versions can be used as quick reference guides when starting up TGM/GEM, Reactive Gaseous Mercury (HgII) and Particulate bound mercury (Hgp) measurements.
