The paper focuses on an approach to the definition of a specification notation to be used within a formal database design methodology. This notation, called Database Schema Notation, has been obtained by specializing a formal notation used within the software engineering area, the Abstract Machine Notation, in order to represent the aspects which are typical of database applications.
