On behalf of the Embassy of Israel, free towing experiments have been carried out at CNR-INSEAN for a Submerged Towed Vehicle model (STV). This report describes the model used in the towing tank tests and presents the measurements of the towing force. The depth of the model while running, and the roll and pitch are reported il plots. The experiments were performed in the 13.5 x 6.5 x 470 m towing tank. Two versions of the model were tested with different bows and three different lengths of towing cable were used. The resistance measured in free conditions, compared with the results obtained during the Captive Underwater tests, shows a good consistency. The modified bow results in a reduction of predicted full scale towing force of 11%. As regards the motion, the body tends to submerge and assumes a negative trim, on average of -2 degrees.
