This document reports about the activities devoted to the simulation of the early operation of SPIDER. Particularly, the operation without caesium is considered and a 5% current density of negative ions with respect to the nominal value; correspondingly the extraction and acceleration voltage s are reduced so as to comply with the Child.Langmuir conditions. The beam o ptics is studied for all three cases of compensation of the magnetic deflection of the beamlets. The activity resulted in the presentation of poster T5_Tu_54 at the latest International C o nference on Ion Sources , held in Geneva on 15 - 20 October 2017 . The poster and the corresponding paper accepted for publication in AIP Conference Proceedings are annexed.
