Work on security of distributed office systems has been done in the object oriented architecture (COMANDOS (1987) and in the global architecture of the tools (Ness, Reim, Hirsch, Meitner, Maier, Hilber and Kerber (1987). The security architecture described in this document defines a common framework for security in a COMANDOS system. Security is investigated on three levels: the management tools level, the object data management system (ODMS) level, and the kernel level.
