A brief description is given of the FODA, a satellite access scheme designed for mixed traffic. The study of the system is presented and the choice of some parameters is justified. A simplified analytic solution is found, describing the steady state behaviour of the system. The results of the simulation tests carried on for an already existing hardware environment are also presented for the channel speeds of 2 and 8 Mbit/sec. The comparison study is made between the behaviours of two different methods for the requests of the bandwidth. Simulation results are shown for both the stationary and the transient cases.

Abstract

A brief description is given of the FODA, a satellite access scheme designed for mixed traffic. The study of the system is presented and the choice of some parameters is justified. A simplified analytic solution is found, describing the steady state behaviour of the system. The results of the simulation tests carried on for an already existing hardware environment are also presented for the channel speeds of 2 and 8 Mbit/sec. The comparison study is made between the behaviours of two different methods for the requests of the bandwidth. Simulation results are shown for both the stationary and the transient cases.
