The accelerate test was chosen for obtaining a fast information (only 8 weeks with respect to 16 weeks in the standard European test) on the resistance of wood specimens treated with two different guayule resins, 89/47 and 89/47/2a diluted in acetone and applied by immersion. It means that the mini-blocks, treated with a surface method and without sealing of the end grains were put in contact with a pure mycelium of two different specified fungi species and strains, a brown rot Coniophora puteana and a white rot T. versicolor. These fungal strains were certified for determining the effectiveness of wood preservatives and for testing the natural durability of wood in Europe according to CEN CT 38 (Durability of wood and wood based products) standards.
