Gap&Ciak2 - WOMEN AND MEN IN THE AUDIOVISUAL INDUSTRY GENUARY 2019

Focusing its investigation on Italy, the DEA report Gap&Ciak2: Women and men in the audiovisual industry, fits into the programme outlined by the regulatory framework. As highlighted by the Council of Europe, one of the most pressing problems is quantitative knowledge of gender presence in the sector. We did not have to start from a blank slate. There are some seminal initiatives, such as that of the EWA European network, which have set themselves this challenge and begun some important quantitative research work on the topic of inequalities and the gender composition of the professional figures involved in film and documentary production in the countries participating in the network. And we also continued to look at what is happening in the world: an update of the state of the research and policies at international level is presented in the contribution of Ilaria A. De Pascalis to this report, The gender gap in the audiovisual professions: integrations to the literature review, going to enrich what was already illustrated in the 2016 Gap&Ciak report in terms not only of research results but also consolidated good practices in the western world.

Nel percorso delineato dal quadro normativo richiamato si inscrive il rapporto DEA del 2017, il nuovo Gap&Ciak - 2017, focalizzato sull'approfondimento della situazione italiana. Come evidenziato dal Consiglio d'Europa uno dei problemi più pressanti è infatti quello della conoscenza quantitativa della distribuzione di genere nel settore. Non siamo partititi da zero: esistono da tempo delle iniziative, come quella del network europeo EWA, che si sono poste questa sfida e che hanno intrapreso importanti ricerche anche quantitative sul tema delle diseguaglianze e sulla composizione per genere delle professionalità coinvolte nella produzione cinematografica e documentaristica nei paesi aderenti alla rete. E abbiamo mantenuto lo sguardo verso quello che succede nel mondo: un aggiornamento dello stato della ricerca e delle iniziative a livello internazionale è presentato nel contributo di Ilaria A. De Pascalis in questo rapporto, Il gender gap nelle professioni dell'audiovisivo: integrazioni alla rassegna della letteratura, contributo che arricchisce quanto già illustrato nel report Gap&Ciak del 2016 in termini non solo dei risultati della ricerca, ma anche delle buone pratiche consolidate nel mondo occidentale.
