In this paper an algorithm is presented to transform a database schema, generated in a high level semantic model, to more specific database schemas, specified according to object-oriented data model, with different levels of implementation of efficiency, down to a corresponding relational schema. In particular, the problem of transforming Is-a class hierarchies is considered. This algorithm serves to support the portability of a database application design to a target modelling level with the chosen database system characteristics.
