The present report summarises the first year of SPIDER operation. The whole sequence of the experimental campaigns is described along with the experimental results as measured by the various diagnostic systems, like spectroscopy and plasma light; the initial operation of the Langmuir probes is also described. Problems and issues emerged during the first experiments are dealt with and the adopted solutions are presented.
