The unique word (UW) detection false alarm probability for TDMA systems adopting B/QPSK modulation schemes is studied in detail. The study is focused on digital communications via satellite, even though most of the results have a more general validity. Recalls of the miss probability are also given for convenience and general criteria for dimensioning the UW length and the detection threshold are also given. In particular a typical QPSK case adopting a four element 12 bits UW with carrier phase ambiguity removal is computed and graphs are provided. The system designer is warned against dangerous choices which can be easily avoided.

Abstract
The unique word (UW) detection false alarm probability for TDMA systems adopting B/QPSK modulation schemes is studied in detail. The study is focused on digital communications via satellite, even though most of the results have a more general validity. Recalls of the miss probability are also given for convenience and general criteria for dimensioning the UW length and the detection threshold are also given. In particular a typical QPSK case adopting a four element 12 bits UW with carrier phase ambiguity removal is computed and graphs are provided. The system designer is warned against dangerous choices which can be easily avoided.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
